About Me

Dr Liz Williams

(MBChB, DCH, PGCert Women’s Health, FRNZCGP, FALSM)

Kia ora, my name is Liz and I am a General Practitioner (family medicine doctor) with 12 years clinical experience, who trained and graduated from Otago University in 2009.

Originally from Whanganui, I moved to Dunedin to study and now have settled here with my husband, two children and two labradors.  I studied medicine with the dream that I could help people feel well and live their best life. However, in the 15minute appointment construct that our current system has I have found it difficult to help people address the root causes of many chronic preventable diseases.  This led me to join the new global movement of lifestyle medicine and I attained international board certification in 2020.

After seeing the difference in my own personal health after choosing real whole food nutrition and optimizing my lifestyle choices, I am passionate about helping others take steps on this journey, no matter how big or small.  I believe our bodies are very resilient and capable of repair but need optimal fuel and conditions to be at peak performance. I hope to empower others to learn how to nourish their bodies so they can be strong and live with vitality.

In my practice I undertake a comprehensive medical assessment and use evidence-informed lifestyle and health coaching strategies to create personalized wellness plans for living with vitality or improvement in any ongoing health condition.

I look forward to working in partnership with you to achieve your health goals.

I use the 6 pillars of lifestyle medicine, combined with coaching techniques to help you make sustainable change and improve your quality of life.

Why Lifestyle Medicine?

Lifestyle medicine is important because the World Health Organisation estimates that in New Zealand, 80% of premature heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes as well as 40% cancer could be prevented with lifestyle changes.

Lifestyle can also play a role in the prevention and treatment of many other chronic health conditions.

Whilst lifestyle medicine provides a strong foundation for health, it is not a panacea treatment and there are still many situations where medicines and other treatments are necessary and appropriate.

Mission

My mission is to enhance the wellbeing of our community by facilitating lifestyle changes for the purpose of enabling people to thrive and live their best life.

The opportunity for knowledge on how to feel well and thrive should not be a privilege but a human right.

I use science to deliver evidence informed strategies that promote wellbeing and vitality.
